Undemocratic exclusion of patriotic forces in the European Parliament

Political groups of the left, the liberals and the European People's Party prevented the chair and vice-chair candidates of the “Patriots for Europe” Group from obtaining their committee positions they are entitled to. This is a clear breach of the EP’s Rules of Procedure and the violation of the rule of law and the basic concept of democracy.

In view of the results of the last EU elections, from which the patriotic forces emerged as the clear winners and as the third biggest group in the European Parliament, "Patriots for Europe" Group was entitled to two committee chairs and several vice chairs. Nevertheless, all candidacies of MEPs from the “Patriots for Europe” Group were voted down today by the coalition of the Socialists, Greens, Liberals and the European People's Party.

The European People’s Party bowing to the left wing parties is the mockery of democracy. The EPP’s parties have shamefully deceived their voters, and have instead turned to the left. They did not only step over the European Parliament’s principles for ensuring political diversity and power balance, but they have also broken their own rules regarding gender balance. In order to push for their own candidates, they asked for a derogation from their own rules at the last moment only to gain the seats. This is a breach of the EP’s rules, the rule of law and democracy, and proves that these leftist political groups only respect law and democracy when it serves their own petty power interests.

However, it will not stop the “Patriots”! The left-liberal bloc cannot discredit the representation of 18 million people’s opinion. We will not allow this, we are here and we will give voice to them. Europe needs a change: Europe deserves better.
