Patriots support Iranian Women, criticises political exclusion in European Parliament

Strasbourg 28/11/2024 - The Patriots for Europe expresses its support for Iranian women in their brave struggle against the systemic Islamist oppression of the Iranian regime.

Our Group tabled its own resolution on the matter and constructively participated in the negotiations on the joint motion for resolution in the European Parliament. In fact, several of the proposals made by the Patriots during the negotiations garnered broad support from other political groups and were included in the final text. Our group co-signed the final text, but was blocked by the others; for this reason, our group does not appear as a co-author on the final text.

By upholding the undemocratic cordon sanitaire, the other groups in the European Parliament show that political rivalries are more important than supporting the women of Iran in their struggle for freedom and speaking with one voice. Instead of demonstrating broad support for the women of Iran, blocking the Patriots from co-signing was prioritised. Their undemocratic cordon sanitaire has nothing to do with values or principles; they will stop at nothing to stay in power.
