First Important Step by the Patriots Against the Green Deal

Strasbourg 03/04/2025 - On Wednesday, 3 April, the European Parliament adopted an initial text aimed at delaying the application of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D). This marks a significant first step by the Patriots for Europe Group against the Green Deal and the excessive regulations burdening our companies.

As early as January, Jordan Bardella called for the immediate suspension of the Green Deal in order to lift constraints on European businesses and the competitiveness of farmers. In response, the von der Leyen Commission published a series of proposals aimed at reducing the administrative burden of the Green Deal, which had been adopted during the previous legislative term by the EPP, Socialist, Renew, and Green Groups. Under political pressure from the Patriots, Ursula von der Leyen and her EPP family are now retreating from the legislation they once championed. They bear immense responsibility for the failure of the European economy and are now desperately trying to appear as the saviours of the European Union.

However, these proposals remain largely insufficient to put Europe back on the path to growth. Cosmetic changes are not enough — we demand real solutions. Jordan Bardella therefore reiterates his proposal to suspend the Green Deal, a move supported by the ECR and ESN Groups. In the European Parliament, an alternative majority that truly represents the interests of our industries and agricultural sector is possible. It is imperative that this majority be formed during the upcoming negotiations on the content of the CSRD, CS3D, and carbon tax regulations.

The European Right now has a unique opportunity to break with years of stifling bureaucracy and nitpicking regulations. It can finally outvote the ideologues of degrowth in the European Parliament. Time is running out: either we act — or we disappear.
