Ceuta Cannot Wait: Patriots Condemn EPP’s Renewed Obstruction

Brussels, 14/10/2026 - The Patriots for Europe Group condemns the EPP’s decision to vote with the Socialists and the far left to delay the proposed investigation into the invasion of Ceuta by another two months at today’s Conference of Presidents’ meeting.

This is not the first time. The EPP already postponed the extraordinary plenary debate requested by Patriots to address the crisis urgently. Now it is blocking progress on an investigation. Once again, the EPP has decided that the people of Ceuta can wait.

Spearheaded by VOX delegation and Patriots for Europe Group, the initiative secured 165 signatures from MEPs representing five political groups and 25 countries — 21 more than required. All 22 MEPs from Spain’s Partido Popular signed it. Yet their own political group voted to block it.

What happened in Ceuta is another tragic example of how the EU’s migration policy and the Commission’s Migration Pact have failed Europeans. To ensure these failures are not repeated, our proposed special committee would establish who attacked Ceuta and who failed to act, examining the roles of the Moroccan authorities, Pedro Sánchez’s government and the European institutions. It would also propose concrete measures to protect Ceuta, Melilla and the Canary Islands against the weaponisation of mass migration.

“For the EPP, the people of Ceuta can wait another two months. For VOX and Patriots for Europe, they cannot. Every week that passes without an investigation is another week handed to those who attacked Ceuta and those who refused to defend it,” said Jorge Buxadé, Head of the VOX Delegation in the Patriots for Europe Group.

Patriots reject this further delay and demand that the proposal return to the agenda immediately. The people of Ceuta deserve answers. Europe must protect its borders. The EPP must stop obstructing accountability.
