Chega
In May 2025, CHEGA emerged as the second-largest political force in Portugal, securing 22.76% of the vote and 60 seats in the Assembly of the Republic. This result positioned the party ahead of the Socialist Party and consolidated its role as the main opposition.
Founded just six years earlier, in April 2019 by André Ventura, CHEGA began with a single seat in Parliament after gaining 1.29% of the vote in that year’s elections. By 2022, it had grown to 12 seats with 7,18 % of the vote, marking the start of its rapid rise in Portuguese politics.
The party’s declared priorities include reforming the justice system, reinforcing public security, adopting stricter immigration policies, improving healthcare, and advancing the well-being of Portuguese citizens. CHEGA defines itself as a national, conservative, liberal, and personalist party.
